This painting is from one of my wanderings through the countryside looking for interesting scenes, with possibilities for turning into a painting. I found this one and clicked it and then moved on to the next area. If memory serves me well, I have turned 3 photos from this trip into paintings - 2 barn paintings and this one.
To make this painting a little different I decided to leave out a ton of information I might usually put in. Not only that, but I also came real close to turning this into a rip off of Wolf Kahn’s style. I guess I’m not there yet - his approach takes real guts and comfort with the subject matter. I think I consider this an homage to Wolf Kahn, instead. Because, I have used, liberally, a color near to the reality but strongly exaggerated into a statement. The warm yellow light blasting into the scene is what this painting is all about. To support that, the trees have been simplified in their architecture and texture and their color has been pushed into the violet without actually showing it. I like the way the tree color makes them look ghostly - it adds a layer of feeling that is counter to the bucolic scene.
