Transition
I made this painting to fit within my most recent painting mode of painting close-ups of things that create very complex painting surfaces. This one is much looser than some of the others but it still has the desired effect. I saw this boulder on the forest floor, just before I stepped on it to propel myself upward, while on a hike. I actually went back to it and took a photo with my phone, in case I wanted to turn it into a painting. This painting is different from the others, with their linear subjects. This solid chunk with the variations on its’ surface seemed to fit, nicely, however. The thing that attracted me to it was its’ state of slow motion change from a larger boulder to some smaller pieces of rock. With a little imagination, it is easy to imagine this object ultimately becoming dust by breaking into, ever smaller pieces, over the millennia.
