Too Late
Just siting around waiting to get covid19, trying to think of an idea I would like to deal with in a painting - then this occurred. I think I combined several thing that were going on in the country during these times. I wouldn’t just do a “covid” painting - not my style. I also notice, when the ideas pop into my head, I don’t just paint pictures of things, I frequently do “ideas.” This is an idea painting. The title: “Too Late” is a reference to the polarization happening in this country. I see people, in public, without masks, strutting their egos around like a prize turkey. I see others (myself) judging those without masks. On another note, I left Facebook because I found out I was reviled by some “friends” because I chose to think about political decisions and their effects on the populace. I found out, that because I tend to vote Democratic, I am sub-human. So, you can see how this kind of image might just pop up, now.
I wanted to show two men engaging in an argument. An argument that always happens when it is too late to use common discourse to show a difference of opinion. I wanted to show that - even without the threat of Covid19 - it is never a nice thing to have another’s mucous on your face, or anywhere. I wanted to show that you can’t put a mask on after an argument and have it be effective - too late. I tried to show that once “it” is out, it cannot be contained. It is free to travel to any number of innocent bystanders and become part of their lives. My advice?: Back the fuck off! - rethink what makes you angry. Do it before it becomes too late.
