This painting comes from a visit to The Grant Cottage on mount MacGregor in Wilton NY (at a time when I was painting Eastern White Pine trees). This is the view from nearly the same level as The Lookout (where President Grant used to go to view the vista). Directly behind you, at this vantage point is a minimum security prison. On the road leading down there is a power plant with a large smokestack that I left out, for aesthetic reasons. This is taken from a late day photograph and shows the shadows of the trees out of view, just now creeping into the view.
