Falling Backward
I was looking to do another abstract. I had to work my way through several ideas before this particular idea hit my head. I felt it might be worth pursuing, i.e. the introduction of movement in a static image. After a few attempts with the composition, this one emerged and became the subject. I am not a math guy so my attempt at acceleration of the fall is done simply by guessing how much further ahead of the “curve” the next falling shape should be. I’m sure that the movement suggested is elementary but, frankly, that is what I was looking for. Each shape is the same size and shape but each one is drawn/painted freehand (my hand riding on the edge of a straight piece of wood, holding the brush away from the edge). The final adjustments to the exaggerations on any edge, out or in from true straight is all done freehand. The colors are similar but not measured. They are very loosely applied and adjusted. That’s how I got here, hope it pleases your eye.
